Mooresville Consolidated School Corporation
Mooresville CSC adds virtualization to reduce data center and IT costs.
Like many public school systems in the nation, Mooresville has been embracing the greater role of technology in the classroom. But with funding constraints and limited space for physical expansion, using an outdated approach, such as buying, racking, and stacking more servers and PCs, was no longer practical. The district needed to modernize with new technologies that would allow them to deliver more computing power with less hardware expense, and create an infrastructure that could also adapt to the rapid pace of innovation in educational computing.
Mooresville CSC had an existing relationship with Matrix and came to them looking for solutions, including desktop virtualization in order to reduce hardware costs and increase access to new applications and services. For this project, Matrix delivered, installed, and configured three Hewlett Packard Enterprise P2000 SAN array systems and five Hewlett Packard Enterprise ProLiant DL585 servers. Matrix also configured all the VMware software solutions, including vSphere 4 Enterprise Plus, View Composer, View Manager, and Virtual Center. Finally, Matrix helped Mooresville Schools repurpose existing PCs for use as end clients, and helped design and create two ThinApp packages.
Server virtualization allowed the district to deliver greater services to users without increasing its IT staff and costs. VMware played a key role in the overall support and reliability of Mooresville’s infrastructure.
