Forward-Thinking: New VP Of People And Culture At Matrix Integration

JASPER, Ind. – Matrix Integration LLC (Matrix), a strategic IT solutions and managed services provider, today announced the promotion of Abby Stallings to a newly created position: Vice President of People and Culture. Stallings, who has worked at Matrix Integration since 2007, is looking forward to continuing her role in leading the firm’s HR functions as well as now focusing on strategic leadership and training and development.

Nathan Stallings, the president of Matrix Integration and Abby’s brother, worked with Abby to create the new, progressive position.

“The Matrix difference has always been our employees, who are like family, and who inspire trust from our clients,” says Nathan Stallings. “I wanted that aspect of our company to be more prominent, so we created the title of ‘VP of People and Culture” to move that mission front-and-center.”

In her new position, Abby Stallings is looking forward to creating and implementing an overarching, strategic vision, which includes a proactive position on diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I).

“We’ve always had an inclusive culture, but now we’re looking at how we can incorporate that culture more formally, such as including our mission on diversity into our job descriptions and bringing more awareness to DE&I initiatives,” says Abby Stallings.

Stallings will also focus on manager and employee education and mentoring, continuing her approach of understanding and coaching each person as an individual, with unique strengths, learning styles and motivations.

Growing Up at Matrix Integration

Stallings’ mother, Brenda, founded Matrix Integration in 1979. As the youngest of four siblings, Stallings remembers spending after-school time at the Matrix office. In addition to playing and doing homework, she would regularly interact with employees, sometimes even helping with administrative tasks.

Stallings went to college for education and taught elementary school in Georgia before returning home to Indiana. After starting her family, she began working at Matrix Integration, first in accounting, and eventually in HR.

“It really boils down to people,” she says. “It was natural moving from teaching into HR because it’s about understanding people and helping them do their best.”

She also appreciates the fact that she never felt she was held back because she was a woman.

“Being a woman in business is natural to me because it’s been in my life since I was little. I was taught at a young age that women can be successful leaders and pave the way for others. We can do whatever we set out to do,” says Stallings.

A graduate of Indiana University Bloomington, Stallings lives in Jasper, Indiana with her three teenage boys and an active puppy. A big country music fan, Stallings enjoys frequent trips to Nashville, Tennessee, to see live music with her family.
